Starting at the Beginning.

As you may be able to gather, my name is Taran, I am a student of the land, and this is my blog. More specifically, I am pursuing expertise in bushcraft while formally studying ecology.

My intention for this space is to chronicle my bushcraft journey, discuss ecology, and generally subject the public to things I find interesting. I will be keeping a log of technical work on bushcraft skills and naturalist studies, including posting journal entries from previous experiences.

I have always been interested in ecology but my interest in bushcraft and subsistence skills is more recent. Before finding science, I spent some time as a liberal arts student exploring the politics and consequences of the global human-land relationship. More than anything, this education gave me a passion for having a personal relationship with the land and the skills to support my own life.

The bushcraft journal entries from 2009 represent my first formal bushcraft training. They took place at Jack Mountain Bushcraft (http://www.jackmtn.com) in the north Maine woods. The experience was life changing and I recommend the school to everyone.

Lets begin.
